Time: 10.30 - 16.00
Cost: Members: £13.00, Non-members: £16.00

Organized in partnership with the West Midlands Costume Society, this day will provide the chance to discover more about the art of dressmaking and one of country’s hidden gems — the Hodson shop collection. This collection is one of the best collections of early twentieth century working class clothing to survive in the country.

The programme will start at the Leather Centre, with an introduction to the Hodson Shop collection by the curator, and a talk on paper patterns by Clare Dolman. There will be a chance to look round the Leather museum before lunch. After lunch, walk to the Community History Museum in Lichfield Street, where there will be a talk about the history of dressmaking by Sheila Shreeve and on making hats by Elizabeth Nightingale. There will then be time to see the exhibition, ‘I Made it Myself’ and the Hodson Shop display before the museum closes at 4 o’clock.
