2011 Symposium Eastbourne 8th-10 July
Pleasure, Leisure, Travel and Fashion
The 2011 Symposium takes place in the South Coast town of Eastbourne with
a visit to the collection at Worthing with its Regency and Victorian travel connections
and closeness to gateway ports to Europe and beyond.
Worthing Museum’s collection reflects the town’s fashionable connections. The town
really came to notice when George III decided that his delicate young daughter,
Princess Amelia, would benefit from a spell at this little fishing village.
The Symposium venue is the Eastbourne Centre, a purpose built hotel and conference
centre situated on the main promenade. All rooms are en-suite and most have balconies
with fantastic views of the English Channel. The station is a short walk away and
on street parking is available nearby for a small charge.
Keynote speakers:
• Dr Sarah Cheung of the Department of Cultural and Historical Studies at London
College of Fashion
• Anthea Jarvis, Dress Historian
• Philip Warren, Principal Curator of Collections at Leicester County Council
