THE COSTUME SOCIETY SYMPOSIUM 2008

DRESS AND PERFORMANCE
CARDIFF 11- 13 JULY

The Costume Society symposium is the forum for recent academic research into all aspects of dress history and contemporary dress.

Our 2008 Symposium will be held in Cardiff at the headquarters of BBC Wales with accommodation at University of Wales Institute Cardiff, directly opposite the BBC. Rooms are en suite in flats of eight with a communal kitchen.

Cardiff - the capital of the Principality of Wales - is Europe’s fastest growing city. Cardiff has much to offer in theatre, music and the performing arts with the renowned Wales Millennium Centre, St David’s Hall, the New Theatre and many smaller venues. It is only two hours drive time from London and Cardiff International Airport is just 12 miles from the City Centre. The exciting waterfront of Bae Caerdydd, Cardiff Bay, is alive with restaurants and bars and the City’s shopping area has every known High Street and many individual boutiques.

Keynote speakers will be:

John Bright - Oscar winning costume designer and founder of Cosprop.

Sean Crowley - Head of Theatre Design, Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Rosemary Harden - Curator, Bath Museum of Costume.

Jenny Tiramani - International Theatre Designer and Dress Historian.
